Dear $MEMBER$,
| WALKING TOUR ON JULY 31, 2004 |
For out of town guests seeking an interesting but inexpensive activity on Saturday, July 31st, we will have a fun and exciting walking tour of downtown Vancouver and Granville Island areas. It is strongly advised that every tour participant wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing. Taking your camera along is highly recommended as there are numerous photo opportunities during the course of our tour.
We will begin by meeting at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown hotel lobby around 9:30am. Depending on the number of participants, we may be able to arrange a carpool with volunteers from our local Mapuans , or we can use the public transit system. A day-ride pass costs about CAD $8.00 or US $6.50.
Using the public transit, we will board the skytrain from the Metrotown Station (about 5 min walk from Hilton Hotel) to downtown Vancouver. Once in downtown, we can explore the stores along Robson Street which offer a wide assortment of food, music, fashion merchandise and souvenirs galore. There are also a variety of interesting restaurants and a multitude of coffee shops along the way.
Next stop is the world renowned Granville Island, famous for its public market complemented with a multicultural food court, a scattering of funky and eclectic shops, and free outdoor entertainment throughout. You can have lunch of your choice at your own leisure; the possibilities are endless. A side tour of False Creek by mini ferries can be arranged for about $3.00 Canadian or about US $ 2.30, if time allows. We will return to the hotel before 3pm so we have ample time to get ready for the GALA night.
We request interested parties to contact the Tour Coordinators so we can plan ahead for our itinerary and transportation.

The golf confirmation deadline is May 30, 2004. Please secure your spot by sending in your registration and green fee on or before the above date, either by cheque or money order, payable to NAMABC, to our Mapuaworld 2004 Finance Committee Chairman:
Greg Narciso 9755 - 155 Street Surrey, BC V3R 7G6 Canada
Should you cancel your booking for whatever reason, the last cancellation date is June 10, 2004. This golf event is pre-booked, confirmed and conditionally prepaid with Swan-e-set Bay & Resort Golf Course based on a schedule of (40) alumni players. To avoid unnecessary charges to NAMABC by the golf course, due to player's non-attendance, your corresponding prepaid green fee will therefore be forfeited. The success and enjoyment of this sporting and socializing event in Mapuaworld 2004 homecoming will require your full cooperation, visitors and locals alike.
The Golf Committee has an intended pairing foursome. The initial roster of players, as shown in the attached PDF file: Tee Off schedule.PDF. is a mix of two visiting players and two locals. This list may be subject to change as we move towards the tournament date.
The intended play format is Four Ball Stroke Play, where two players will play as partners (visitor/local) against the other two. Each player will play his own ball. Handicapping will apply. The partners with the lowest combined net score against the field will win the tournament. All players will finish each hole (no picking up of balls) and regular stroke play will be counted based on the Callaway handicapping system. There will also be winners in the categories of Low Gross and Low Net. We may also exercise our routine regulations which we practice each tour, as guided by the rules of RCGA/USGA.
We encourage you to log in your confirmation, mail your green fee cheque and allow yourself to spend a unique and exciting time with friends and colleagues. You can contact anyone of the members of the golf committee as listed below, or email your questions and concerns. We thank you in advance for your kind cooperation and we’ll see you at the first tee.
To help the Mapuaworld Golf Committee do a fair pairing of players, we request that you reply to this email by clicking the link below and put in your latest average score, especially the out of town golf players.
Sincerely,
Mapuaworld 2004 Golf Committee | | |
