WORKSHOP ON ASSERTIVE COMMUNICATIONS AND SKILL TRAINING
By:  Dexter Tarampi

While most of our members were enjoying the sun on Saturday, June 21, sixteen of our members were busy brainstorming in a workshop on Assertive Communication and Skills Training.  Although this was the first part of a two-day workshop, it gave the participants a good basic understanding what assertiveness really means.

Assertive behavior is aimed at influencing events, expressing your wants, and depending your rights and beliefs. Assertive behavior helps you channel your anger, fear and anxiety into positive ways and by acknowledging your feelings can help you perform better in any situation.  Assertiveness involves skills that you can learn and that you can improve upon by frequent practice.

The five-hour workshop held at the "SHARE" office in Port Coquitlam was interesting and enlightening. The workshop facilitator was an experienced family counselor, a motivational speaker and a graduate in psychology. Lunch was held at a nearby Mandarin restaurant.   Part two of the workshop will be held sometime in the fall. Also, watch for more upcoming motivational courses.

NAMA GOLF
By: Greg Narciso

The 4th golf tournament was held at Maylora Golf Course in Richmond on
June 1st. A total of 29 players participated and the afternoon was full of fun. Several players decided to stay late in the afternoon to celebrate the hole in one of Greg Narciso. After several drinks in the bar, the group decided to play another round of golf until dusk, compliments of Maylora Golf Course. The later game became more of a test hitting the ball than having distance or direction. It became a challenge for some to focus on the ball. It was surely fun to watch Sam Quinones on his tee shots.

The winners are as follow:                 Low Gross   - Jun Peralta
1st Low Net - Oscar Asuncion
2nd Low Net - Noli San Buenaventura
3rd Low Net - Emer Catapia
Closest to the pin (front 9) - Rick dela Torre
Hole in one - (14th hole)  - Greg Narciso
