WHAT MAPUANS WANT
(Seminars and Training Sub-committee)
By Ding Torrijos:
During the last monthly meeting held on May 30 at Betsy's, the Seminars and Training Sub-committee conducted an impromptu survey. The purpose of the survey is to find out which groups of topics appeal the most to our general membership.
There were 28 survey sheets returned. Topping the list of preferred topics are those dealing with financial subjects, getting 42% of the popular votes. "Starting a Small Bussiness", one of the suggested topics got an impressive 68% of the votes, followed by "Registered Retirement Savings Plan" and "Pag-ibig Loans from the Philippines" each getting 50%.
The other two groups of suggested topics, one dealing with health issues and the other with job search and alternative career planning - received 29% of the vote, with "Herbal Medicine" topping the list at 39%, followed by "Effective Resume", "Job Interviews" and "Other health issues" getting 32% of the votes.
With these results, the sub-committee will try to line up short 1 to 1 1/2 hour seminars in the near future.

CAMPING AND PICNIC INFO
By Bert Samson
Digno and I met with Teddy Gonzales, president of FILCANSA. It
was decided that both NAMA and FILCANSA would have a joint camping and
picnic on the long weekend of August (August 3rd to 5th). The two groups
will be side by side on a ballfield size campsite called Vedder River Campground.
There is one covered hall that can be used by both organizations,
however, it will likely be more to the use of FILCANSA being close to their
site. On our part, we will be using a big tent (eating area and food
station) thru the courtesy of Dexter Tarampi.
As explained by Teddy, the Group camp ground (near the entrance). Power and water maybe ground will be more of a tent site, therefore, members with campers will have to use the parking area (beside the tent site).
Members interested only in Picnic are advised to come on August 4, when picnic and games are scheduled. Members are reminded to bring their own lawn chairs. NAMA will pay for the site, provide Sunday breakfast and some snacks but members are to bring their own food.
The Campsite is located at Giesbrecht Rd. via Vedder Crossing Rd. in Chilliwack. From Highway #1 going east, turn right at Yarrow Exit (you will see corn store's on both sides of the road). Follow the road until you reach a major "T" or a 3-way intersection - turn left and follow the road (passing Yarrow town) until you see Giesbrecht Rd. Turn left at Giesbrecht Rd. and at the end of this road is the Campsite called the Vedder River Campground.
TECHNICAL SEMINAR
Last June 27, the first seminar sponsored by the professional certification committee chaired by Soolim Co was held at the Holiday Inn at Lougheed Hiway. Dexter Tarampi, the Internal V.P. who is also responsible for the committee, coordinated with the Assistant Director for registration of The Association of Professional Engineers of B.C.
Elvis Riou, P Eng. (Assistant Director for registration) conducted the seminar, which was attended by 20 guests. A more detailed report is being prepared by Soolim Co and will be included in the next issue of our newsletter.
SPORTS
By Greg Narciso:
THIRD GOLF TOURNAMENT
The third golf tournament was held at Maylora Golf Course in
Richmond. The par 59 course seems adequate for the budding NAMA golfers
and more relaxing for the more experienced players. A total of 29 golfers
participated and enjoyed an afternoon of golfing with friends.
The winners were as follow:
