Bear Creek – Surrey, BC This year’s picnic held last July 8 at Bear Creak Park in Surrey has been another successful event for NAMABC. To secure the place, Greg Narciso, Ben Dingcol and Joven Hebron were at Bear Creek Park as early as 5:00am.
They were relieved by Rey Yapyuco and Danny Federizo by 8:00 am and the members started to arrive by 10:00 am. The affair was well attended and members as well as guests enjoyed the nice weather with foods supplied by the organization. There were games for both young and old with prizes donated by NAMABC. Bong Banting took charge of the different games. Kids of all ages enjoyed the games with lots of beautiful prizes.
On
the other hand, Josie Pareja lead the treasure hunt that was enjoyed by the
participants and spectators alike. Our annual picnic always proved to be popular and enabled members and their families to inter act and establish lasting friendships. Foods (pansit guisado, fried chicken wings, puto, pandesal, and fresh fruits) were free to members and their families. Guests were charged $5.00 per person to cover the cost of food.
During
the Picnic the organization was able to raise $250.00 as 25 members paid
their membership dues. Your membership fees will help the organization carry
out some vital functions and will ensure continuous sponsorship of activities
like this. The Executive committee would like to thank everybody who helped in making this affair a success. With your support we will continue to be a strong organization and will be able to share more quality time together.
Friday
Creek campground, Mt. Vernon WASHINGTON, USA Another
summer event we traditionally sponsor is our Annual Camping. It was held at
Friday Creek campground in Mt. Vernon, Washington last Aug. 3, 4, 5 and 6. There
were 15 sites occupied by members and guests with some sites occupied by 2
families. The weather cooperated with our hardy campers as it was sunny most
of the weekend with only some scattered showers on the first and last day of
the four day affair. Campers
and guests had potluck lunch on Saturday, August 4. After lunch, members with
dancing skills shared their talent to other members who want to learn
different steps of Cha-cha, Mambo and Rumba. In addition, Josie Pareja helped
in organizing games - “Pinata” for the kids and Scavenger hunt for the
adults. In the scavenger hunt, there were five teams who beat the clock to
find the missing items requested by Josie. The evening potluck on that same day consisted of dinuguan, shrimp, lumpia shanghai, etc. Added to these were barbecued salmon, chicken, and oysters.
Saturday
night was celebrated in Hawaiian motif in the Lodge. Our members enjoyed
dancing to the beat of cha-cha, rumba, mambo and tango. With all the dancing
lessons and merriment of the night one can say that the Fall dance scheduled
on September 29, 2001 is not happening fast enough. Julius Lardizabal was
easily visible from the crowd with his untiring effort to refine his line
dancing skills as well as his determination to improve his ballroom dancing. Some
members; Sam and Gloria Quinones, Angel and Fe Alcos, Ver and Angie Airoso
made their trips for the Saturday picnic and stayed till the dance party was
over. Special mention goes to Josel Pante and family who braved the inclement
weather from Vancouver Friday evening and arrived at the campsite at around
1:00 am Saturday – with his 20 day old grandson to boot. Sunday
was a golfing day for most of the members. The wives either stay at the
campground or went shopping to nearby outlet mall. After the golf tournament,
the golf club served foods and barbecue to the golfers and campers alike
which was followed by more dancing and parlor games till midnight. The campers trekked their way back to Vancouver on Monday afternoon.
Part of the 4 day camping is the annual Invitational Golf Tournament which was played at Similk Beach Golf Course in Washington State. The tournament on August 5 was participated by 33 golfers. The 1st Low Net was won by Eddie Alfonso while the 2nd Low Net went to Bert Samson. The Low Gross was awarded to Emer Catapia.
