CAMPING/PICNIC '97
By: Greg Narciso

The executive committee would like to thank all our members for all the supports and their contribution of time and talents towards the success of our organization. As a reward for all the efforts of our dedicated members and untiring leadership of our officers, it was just fitting that we treat our selves in a well planned and anticipated camping and picnic. 126 members, member's families and friends attended this affair which was held last July 25, 26 & 27 at Stave Lake Lodge and Campsite.

The fun started on Friday night with karaoke and mahjong in the lodge while others with campers passed the night exchanging pleasantries on the campsite. The children stayed with their parents in their tents savoring the delicious foods prepared by their moms while enjoying the flickering light of a gas lantern.

On July 26 (Saturday), the date of the picnic more members arrived including our 2 families from Bellingham. NAMA shouldered all the expenses for this affair, however, members and guests were requested to bring their own food and drinks to be augmented by foods donated by NAMA which comprise of three cases of large Telapia, 2 Lechons, corn, bread, eggs, bacon, noodles and condiments, and assorted fruits.

The day's activities was highlighted by games participated by adults and kids. Members and guests enjoyed volleyball game, race with water filled balloon between faces of running mate, water balloon throwing and toilet paper wrapping contest among others. There were sack race and corn eating contest for the kids; the golfers have their pitching contest as well. There were also especial dance presentations from the "Whatchamakulit" dancers who were six and seven years old.

GOLF

The golf season came to a close with the presentation of awards to the winners from the various tournaments. The Awards night was held at the Blue Lagoon  (Taste of China Restaurant) in 13639 - 104 Ave. Surrey last September 28. Forty-nine guests attended the affair.

As our golf club is maturing with several members getting into the sport more seriously, NAMA has decided to formally organize our golf club committee. A body of 10 members were created who would be responsible for the following: register our club to the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA), outline rules and regulations, make advance booking and reservations, awards and banquet among other things. Being registered would mean that our golf club members would be issued an index card or their handicap would be established. As such they can play with other golf club like PGA & FILCANSA or any other clubs registered with RCGA in equal footing.

Nap Santos would head the golf club committee with the following members:

Emer Catapia

Pete dela Cruz

Rod de Sequera

Amante Jotie

Greg Narciso

Sam Quinones

Bert Samson

Noli San Buenaventura

Digno Vibat

Bowling

A bowling tournament is on the planning stage. Sam Quinones who is in charge of the tournament is currently negotiating for the place and date. Bowlers would be posted of the details in due time.

Basketball

Several members are clamoring for a repeat of last year's basketball tournament. It seems appropriate that we have some sort of exercise during the winter season. Digno has already notified Percy Gamboa who is in charge of booking our gym about the interest of having another basketball tournament. The executive committee is continuously discussing and trying to finalize the plan for another tournament. We will discuss more of our fall and winter sports on our general meeting on October 23 so we want you to be there.
